Ponoka County man sentenced to 145 days in jail after early 2023 investigation

A man from Ponoka County, charged in relation to a February 2023 investigation, has been sentenced to 145 days in prison.

Timothy Shawn Leblanc, now 37, was sentenced in Ponoka on May 10, and given 140 days credit for time already spent behind bars. He was also given 12 months of probation, and all on two counts: one for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and one for possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Several other charges related to weapons, firearms and possession of an explosive were dropped.

His original co-accused, a 28-year-old woman, also from Ponoka County, saw all her charges withdrawn on July 28, 2023.

It was on Feb. 16, 2023, when RCMP received information with regards to stolen property at a rural location near Ponoka. As a result of the investigation, between Feb. 18-21, 2023, Ponoka RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Section and the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit, executed search warrants at the property.

As a result of the searches, RCMP seized:

  • Approx. 31 grams of suspected methamphetamine mixed with fentanyl
  • Approx. 166 grams of suspected cocaine
  • Three firearms
  • Approx. 2,000 rounds of ammunition
  • Explosives (blasting caps)
  • A 2018 John Deere Skid Steer stolen from a Feb. 5, 2022 Ponoka area gravel pit
  • A stolen 1998 Dodge Ram
  • High Wall dump trailer with obliterated Vehicle Identification Number
  • A Heavy duty car hauler trailer
  • Various stolen household items including video games, luggage, scuba diving equipment, air pistols etc.
