Conditional Sentence Order for Lacombe County man charged in Rimbey shooting

May 14, 2024 | 3:06 PM

A six-month Conditional Sentence Order (CSO) has been given to a Lacombe County man charged in a Rimbey shooting incident nearly four years ago.

Jade John Edward Slofstra, 35, was sentenced in Edmonton Court of Kings Bench on May 3, 2024, after being convicted on one count of possession of a prohibited firearm.

Slofstra was originally charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and breach of recognizance in the July 5, 2020, incident.

That’s when RCMP responded to a request for help from EMS after a female witness called 911 in relation to a shooting at a rural property in Rimbey.

Mounties say the shooting occurred after a brief altercation that had escalated between two males. Police say the victim was able to drive away from the location of the shooting but was later airlifted to hospital suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The male suspect turned himself into police the next day.

RCMP described the shooting as an isolated incident.
