Jury trial scheduled for man charged in central Alberta homicide

A jury trial has been scheduled for a man charged in a central Alberta homicide over two-and-a-half years ago.

Kieran Keith Lightning, 21, is scheduled for a jury trial in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench from Dec. 9-20, 2024.

The trial dates were set following a preliminary hearing in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice last month.

Lightning is charged with second-degree murder in relation to a homicide on Samson Cree Nation on Sept. 9, 2022.

Mounties identified the deceased as 22-year-old Jordie Buffalo-Crier, a resident of Samson Cree Nation.

Lightning was arrested in connection with the crime on Sept. 13, 2022.
