Maskwacis RCMP and Major Crime Unit lay charges in suspicious death

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has laid charges against a man in relation to a homicide on Samson Cree Nation on Sept. 9, 2022.

Mounties say the deceased in this incident has been identified as 22-year-old Jordie Buffalo-Crier, a resident of Samson Cree Nation.

As a result of the investigation, on Sept. 13, 2022, RCMP arrested Kieran Keith Lightning, 20, in Wetaskiwin. Lightning has been charged with Second Degree Murder.

Police say Lightning has been remanded into custody with his next court appearance set for Sept. 29, 2022, at Wetaskiwin provincial court.

As this matter is now before the courts, the RCMP will not be commenting further.
