Wednesday: 52 collisions

Alberta RCMP currently responding to multiple motor vehicle collisions on QE II Highway

Mar 21, 2024 | 10:39 AM

Alberta RCMP continue to respond to numerous motor vehicle collisions on the QE II Highway.

Alberta RCMP Traffic Leduc are currently responding to several motor vehicle collisions on Highway 2 in the city and surrounding area due to low visibility, blowing snow and icy roads.

Yesterday, Alberta RCMP were kept busy responding to collisions.

Police report that just on the QE II between Edmonton and Calgary, they responded to 52 collisions with three resulting in injuries. Other serious collisions were also reported throughout the province.

With the snow continuing to fall, RCMP expect poor driving conditions to continue.

They are asking residents to stay home if they do not have to travel.

If travel is necessary, RCMP are reminding road users to use extreme caution, slow down and maintain an increased distance between themselves and other drivers.

Motorists are also being asked to ensure they check Alberta 511 before any travel for the most up-to-date highway conditions and plan their travel accordingly. Re-routes are to be expected if collisions do occur on major highways.

Recent weather alerts for Alberta can be found on the Weather Information – Environment Canada website.
