Outdoor rinks and pond surface closed for the season

With recent warm temperatures and sunshine, officials with the City of Red Deer say the remaining outdoor rinks, Bower Ponds skating pond, and the Ice Oval at Great Chief Park are now all closed for the season.

The City says Parks and Public Works staff will remove nets and turn off the lights in the next day or two.

The City is also issuing a reminder to stay safe on all ice surfaces. Fluctuating temperatures and flowing water causes soft spots that may not be noticeable to the eye, note City officials. Residents are reminded to stay off ice and keep children and pets clear of ice surfaces as well.
