New trial dates scheduled for man charged in Wetaskiwin stabbings

New trial dates have been scheduled for a central Alberta man charged in multiple stabbings in Wetaskiwin last year.

Sandy Brown, 33, a resident of Maskwacis, is now scheduled for trial in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice from Nov. 28-29, 2024. He was previously scheduled for trial in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice from Dec. 21-22, 2023.

It was on Jan. 11, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., when Wetaskiwin RCMP say they responded to a report of a stabbing in Wetaskiwin.

When RCMP and EMS arrived on scene, they located one male with stab wounds.

Several minutes later, RCMP received a report of a second stabbing incident in Wetaskiwin. When Mounties arrived, two additional victims were located. Police confirm both victims were transported to hospital with serious injuries and were expected to recover. After an investigation, it was determined that both incidents were related.

As a result of the investigation, RCMP charged the suspect with:

  • Aggravated assault (x2)
  • Failing to comply with release conditions.
