Quaker granola bar and cereal products recalled across Canada due to salmonella concerns
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a national recall of Quaker brand granola bars and cereals, including Cap’n Crunch brand treat bars, due to salmonella.
The CFIA says the recall is the direct result of a recall initiated Thursday in the United States by the Quaker Oats Company. Action is being taken in Canada due to an abundance of caution and commitment to the wellbeing of Canadian consumers, it says.
“Salmonella is a bacterium that can possibly cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps,” it’s stated in a release. “Most individuals recover without treatment. In some cases, diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.”
The long list of recalled products have been distributed across Canada, and a full listing of those affected can be found here.
