Central Alberta dancers win gold and silver in Belgium

A group of central Alberta girls who recently travelled to Belgium for a dance competition fared very well.

rdnewsNOW shared news of their late November/early December trip in October.

In the end, Kaitlyn Rumohr, Mika Prins and Eva Best won gold for ballet in the junior formations category, Kaitlyn Worr won gold for ballet in the children’s category, and Alexane Best and Hazel Stapley won silver for ballet formation in the adult category

Rumohr says the experience was beyond any of their expectations, and that it was inspiring to be around other outstanding dancers from around the world.

“The competition was strong, but we took it as motivation to be the best we could. Every time I took the stage, I was overwhelmed with pride to be representing my country. None of us expected to leave with a medal, and the feeling of hearing Canada called for the gold medal in ballet is one that I will never forget,” says Rumohr.

“Possibly the best memory was when we sang O’ Canada as a team to honour our country following our win, a dream that I never thought would come true. I am so proud of my team for all of the work that we put in to bring these dances together in under four months.”

On behalf of the group, Rumohr thanks Miss Shelley, Miss Kelci, and Miss Lisette for the endless work they’ve poured into preparing them for the biggest stages.

“They created beautiful choreography and ensured that it was polished to perfection. All of us will be attending competitions around Alberta beginning in March, and we are excited to showcase the work we have done with our home studios,” Rumohr adds.

“I am so grateful to have been able to experience the IDO World Championships with such an incredible team, and I will never take it for granted.”

Rumohr says she hopes to take more classes with Team Canada choreographers over the summer.
