UPDATE: 9:17 p.m., Dec. 1

RCMP are investigating and one person has been charged after an incident in central Alberta that ended early Friday.

Police say it was about 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 when Sylvan Lake Mounties received a report of an aggravated assault near the Alliance Church on 47 Avenue.

Upon arrival, a 41-year-old victim was found with serious injuries.

It was then determined he’d been attacked by two men, police say.

A witness tried to intervene, but had a gun pointed at them, add police.

The suspects then fled in a vehicle. Information was passed to neighbouring detachments, and Blackfalds RCMP located the vehicle at a trailer home on Spruce Street, just off the QEII on the east side of Gasoline Alley.

A spike belt had to be used to disable the vehicle. RCMP arrested both occupants.

Steven Tyler Mitchell, 28, of Red Deer County has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Robbery, and has a court date of Dec. 4 in Red Deer. The second person in the vehicle, a woman, was released without charges.

RCMP are still attempting to identify the second man allegedly involved in the attack.

RCMP said the incident wrapped up around 1-1:30 a.m. Dec. 1.
