Boil Water Order lifted for Town of Olds

Nov 1, 2023 | 4:58 PM

Effective immediately, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has lifted the boil water order for residents and businesses in the Town of Olds.

Officials say an issue at the water treatment plant had prompted AHS to issue a boil water order on October 30, 2023 as a precautionary measure after AHS was notified about a lack of water pressure, increased turbidity and water discolouration. AHS says that issue has since been resolved, and water quality testing has confirmed that water is once again safe to consume.

The health agency says all residents and businesses within the community can return to normal water consumption practices; boiling is no longer required.

Homeowners are advised to take the following precautions following the end of the boil water order:

  • Turn on all taps and flush water lines for at least 5 minutes (10 minutes if you live in an apartment building).
  • Read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for flushing, cleaning, and sanitizing cisterns (containers that store drinking water), water filters, and ice and water dispensers.
  • Drain and refill hot-water tanks that are set below 45ºC.
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer.
