First Thursday Concert Series — Invocation: Music by Women Composers

The Friends of the Red Deer Public Library (Downtown Branch) are pleased to present Invocation: Music by Women Composers — Mathieu-Chua Duo, Véronique Mathieu & Stephanie Chua in the Snell Auditorium on Thursday, November 2 from 12:15-1 p.m.

This program pays homage to many innovative women composers that marked history at various time. The repertoire spans centuries of music and represents women from a variety of cultures.

Donations

Thanks to those who have made donations in support of the First Thursday concerts. These funds have been used to pay fees and expenses for the musicians presenting at the Library. If anyone wishes to support these concerts, cheques should be made out to the Red Deer Public Library, with a memo for concerts. A charitable receipt will be issued.

Coming Events

CONCERT: Burman University’s Sunday at 4 series kicks off its 23-24 concert season with Germany’s Ensemble Phoenix Munich on Sunday, October 29th, at 4:00 pm in the Administration Building Auditorium, Lacombe AB (on campus). The eclectic program will feature songs from the French Renaissance and legendary Canadian singer-songwriter/poet Leonard Cohen, and included on EPM’s forthcoming album on deutsche harmonia mundi. A special concert to CELEBRATE THE MUSIC OF VERNON MURGATROYD, Composer, Musician, and Friend of the Red Deer Music Community, will be held Saturday, November 4, at 7:00 PM at Gaetz United Church. General Seating by donation and reserved tickets $10.00. To reserve, please email.

The Central Alberta Chamber Players will present a “Concert of Remembrance – The Songs We Sang” in the church at Sunnybrook Farm on Sunday November 12, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20 on Eventbrite.ca or at the door. The concert will feature songs from the 1900s through present that help us remember those who served, those who still serve, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Note: The church only has 70 seats, so we encourage people to buy tickets ahead
