In week two of RDP Athletics, four teams will be in action this weekend which includes the Queens Soccer team who will host their home opener this Saturday at 12 p.m. when they take on the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings.

This game will lead to a crucial matchup between the Polytechnic and the SAIT Trojans on Sunday in Calgary.

With no men’s team for the Vikings, the Kings will have a bye but will head off to Calgary to take on the Trojans with a start time around 2 p.m.

The Cross-Country will also be in Calgary on Saturday afternoon as they take part in the second Running Room Grand Prix of the season.

Please refer to the details below for more information regarding each match and meet.

Queens (1-1-0) vs SAIT Trojans (2-0-0)

  • Sunday, September 17 | 12 pm at Calgary

After a split weekend, the Queens will look to continue their winning ways this Saturday when they take on the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings in what will be the women’s home opener of the season.

The Vikings also sit with a 1-1 record as they were able to defeat the Ambrose University Lions 3-0 but were shutout by the tough SAIT Trojans 9-0 the following day.

Last year, the Queens defeated the Vikings twice, both times with a score of 7-0. Last year striker Grace Smith scored two goals against Augustana with her teammate Sofia Quinteros scoring one goal and picking up two assists in the two matches of the season.

On Sunday, it will be a big matchup for the Queens as they will take on the Trojans who are undefeated so far this season, defeating the Lions and the Vikings already. The Trojans have yet to concede a goal and have outscored their opponents 22-0.

This will be an anticipated matchup for the Queens as if they want to finish first in the division, SAIT will be one of the teams to defeat. This match can be streamed live on ACACTV at 12 p.m.

Kings (0-1-1) vs SAIT Trojans (1-0-0)

  • Sunday, September 17 | 2 pm at Calgary

Due to the Vikings not having a men’s soccer team, the Kings will get a bye on Saturday but will look forward to a very tough matchup against the SAIT Trojans who have just played the one game so far. The Trojans battled with the Lions and came away with a 2-0 victory.

Last year, one of the Kings biggest highlights of the year was stealing a point away from the Trojans as they completed the 90 minutes with a 1-1 tie. The Polytechnic was the only team to steal a point away from SAIT as they finished atop of the standings with a 9-0-1 record.

This will be a crucial point in their season as they want to fight for the top spot in the division but currently sit with just one point in two games.

This match will be streamed live on ACACTV following the end of the Queens match.

Kings and Queens Cross Country

  • Saturday, September 16 hosted by SAIT Trojans (Calgary)

After a successful weekend in Edmonton, the Kings and Queens would very much like to continue their momentum into this weekend’s cross-country meet held in Calgary.

This past weekend saw the Kings and Queens finish in first place as a team in the 6km and 8km event. The RDP Athlete of the Week Ben House finished in fourth for the men and Justine Larson (Bachelor of Education) came in fifth place which was the top place finish for the Queens in the 6km race.

But keep an eye out on the rookies of the team like Dylan Leadlay (Bachelor of Education), Loami Rautenbach (Open Studies) and Zoey Longman (Legal Assistant) who came up clutch for the Kings and Queens in their very first race in the ACAC to help their respective team’s finish a top of the Grand Prix standings so far.

The race will start at 12 pm with the women running in the 6km. Following the end of this race, the men will take part in the 8km event. Stay tuned on Saturday night for all the details regarding what happened relating to the Kings and Queens Cross Country team at this event.
