Penhold Volunteer Firefighters Association fundraising for fire engine upgrades

Sep 2, 2023 | 4:02 PM

The Penhold Volunteer Firefighters Association is excited to announce tickets are 50% sold for their fundraising campaign aimed at upgrading the Penhold Fire Department’s Type 6 engine used for combating vegetation fires within the Town of Penhold service area.

“During the ongoing wildfire season, this truck has been called upon for mutual aid to support firefighting across the province and the association has determined there is a need to upgrade parts of the truck to better serve the community and the province,” says Penhold Fire Chief Sean Pendergast.

The proposed upgrades to the Type 6 Engine include:

– Swapping the box out for a flat deck
– Adding custom storage cabinets to better secure equipment and gear
– Adding gear
– Adding lights and functions to the emergency lighting
– Replacing the interior civilian console with a custom emergency vehicle console

“We have sold approximately half of the tickets so far,” says Dwayne Marsden, president of the Penhold Volunteer Firefighter Association. “We are hoping to have the rest of the tickets sold by September 8 when we draw the winner during Penhold’s Fall Festival.”

The association’s plan is to perform these upgrades during the upcoming winter months when the engine would typically be out of service. This proactive approach is intended to have the engine fully upgrades and operational well before the commencement of next year’s wildfire season.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase for $10 per ticket through any member of the Penhold Volunteer Firefighters Association or by contacting Dwayne Marsden at 403-597-2007. The association extends its gratitude to the community for their ongoing support of these upgrades to increase the Fire Department’s ability to combat vegetation fires.
