Red Deer economic region sees modest decrease in unemployment rate in July

The Red Deer economic region’s unemployment rate came in at 5.7 per cent last month, down from 5.9 per cent in June, but still up one percent from July 2022.

Elsewhere, the Calgary economic region saw a jobless rate of 6.1 per cent in July, up from 5.8 per cent in June, and 5.1 per cent in June 2022.

The Edmonton economic region saw an unemployment rate of 5.9 per cent in July, down slightly from 6.0 per cent in June, but up from 5.4 per cent in the same month last year.

The Lethbridge economic region also saw a jobless rate of 5.9 per cent last month, up from 5.4 per cent in June, and 4.0 per cent in July 2022.

The Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake economic region saw an unemployment rate of 5.2 per cent in July, up from 4.7 per cent in June, but still lower than the 5.8 per cent seen in July of last year.

The Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River economic region reported a jobless rate of 5.1 per cent last month, down from 5.3 per cent in June, and 6.0 per cent in July 2022.

The Camrose-Drumheller economic region saw the lowest unemployment rate in the province at 3.8 per cent, down from 5.3 per cent in June, and 5.1 per cent in July of last year.

Alberta’s unemployment rate came in at 6.1 per cent in July, up from 5.7 per cent in June, and 5.0 per cent in July 2022.

The national jobless rate was 5.5 per cent in July, up from 5.4 per cent in June, and 4.9 per cent in July 2022.
