Zellers returns as pop-up in Red Deer’s Bower Mall this August

Zellers is officially returning as a pop-up in Bower Mall next month to see if Red Deerians want it to stay for good.

The retailer has announced the opening of 21 more pop-ups inside Hudson’s Bay stores on August 11, spanning five provinces and almost all in new markets.

They say the pop-ups will serve as “strategic market tests” to determine future Zellers store locations.

“Pop-ups are a key ingredient in our expansion strategy, allowing us to explore and test in new markets, gather valuable customer insights, and fine-tune our offering before establishing larger format store locations,” said Sophia Hwang-Judiesch, President of Hudson’s Bay. “Our customers are very much part of our growth process, and together we will shape the future of Zellers, building a shopping experience that truly connects with communities across Canada.”

The Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC), who owns Zellers, says pop-up footprints will vary depending on location, ranging from 1,000 – 2,800 square feet, with the exception of Queen Street in Toronto.

Zellers first opened in 1931, donning their famous Canadian red colors, with a focus on low prices. Having sold most of their locations in 2011 to the American-based Target department store, which have since all closed in Canada, they say they are now gearing up to become the new go-to, from lifestyle to home and almost everything in between.

Earlier this year, Zellers opened 25 pop-ups within HBC stores ranging from 8,000 – 10,000 square feet.

“Showcasing a curated assortment of quality, value and design-led Zellers merchandise, the pop-ups deliver a delightful bite-sized taste of Zellers,” said the company in a release.

Zellers will be popping up at Hudson’s Bay stores in:
