EDMONTON, AB – Federal officials say talks are underway with the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico to bring in additional firefighters to battle wildfires in Alberta.
Federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair says it’s almost without precedent to have this level of fire activity in the province, this early in the season.
Blair joined Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton today to meet with troops helping fight wildfires that worsened under the weekend heat.
Wildfires are also a concern in neighbouring British Columbia, the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan.
