UPDATE: Sipekne’katik RCMP continue with firearms investigation
Update: This RCMP update on March 27, 2023 is relating to a previous story published by the Canadian Press on March 26, 2023.
INDIAN BROOK, N.S. — Sipekne’katik RCMP is continuing with the firearms investigation that lead to an emergency alert yesterday evening.
On March 26, 2023, at approximately 4:45 p.m., while on patrol on Church St. in Sipekne’katik, an RCMP officer was approached by a woman who advised that a 27-year-old woman, Shannon Yvonne Hudson, was armed inside of a home on Dowie Rd. The witness also advised that the woman had discharged the firearm inside the home approximately 45 minutes earlier, around 4 p.m. RCMP officers began securing the area around the home and Dowie Rd. was closed to the public. The Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team was also dispatched to the scene.
As the investigation progressed, RCMP officers learned that Hudson was not inside the residence and as a result, shortly after 7 p.m., an emergency alert was issued advising people in the area to be on the lookout for the woman and if the woman was seen, to call 911 and not approach her.
