Man charged in Ponoka robberies going to trial

A trial date has been set for a man charged in a pair of Ponoka robberies earlier this year.

Matthew George Omeasoo, 27, of no fixed address, is scheduled for trial in Ponoka provincial court on July 21, 2023.

It was on Jan. 16, 2023, when Mounties say they received a report of a male shoplifting at a store. When confronted, it’s alleged the male assaulted the staff member.

On Jan. 17, 2023, RCMP state they received a report of a male seen shoplifting from a different store and when confronted, the male produced a knife and left.
