Local brew supports Dress for Success Central Alberta this Int’l Women’s Day

A locally brewed beer is once again helping support one agency’s vision around International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8.

The brew is a Raspberry Blonde called The Classiest Yet by Field & Forge, and is being sold at Central Alberta Co-op liquor store locations in support of Dress for Success Central Alberta (Dress for Success).

This is the third year Field & Forge has undertaken this initiative, with women from both Co-op and Dress for Success taking part in the canning process.

“We knew we wanted to do a Women’s Day Brew since we work with so many great women in the industry and we couldn’t think of a better partner than Central Alberta Co-op, so we were happy to work with them on this brew,” says Josh Hauta, Field & Forge Sales & Community Lead.

“This is a great way to pay respect to all the amazing women in our lives — in the workplace and our personal lives — and we wanted to do more than just a social media post. Creating a beer that we are all proud of for the occasion has been a fantastic way to honour the day, and to raise money for Dress for Success is the icing on the cake.”

At Dress for Success, the mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence, shares Crystal Cawsey, board chair. This goal is achieved by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive.

All funds raised through the beer campaign support the services they offer, which are all free.

“The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is to Embrace Equity. On the International Women’s Day website, I read ‘Equity can be defined as giving everyone what they need to be successful,’ and at Dress for Success Central Alberta, that is our core mission,” says Cawsey.

“Not everyone comes to us from the same walk of life or with the same circumstances. We meet them where they are and provide the tools to help them, as well as those who rely on them, on their journey to achieving economic independence.”

Babette Dorn, Liquor Division Manager with Central Alberta Co-op, says the beer should sell out in about four to six weeks.

“Central Alberta Co-op is proud to have many fantastic women on our team. This gives us an opportunity to recognize their contribution to not only Central Alberta Co-op but to our communities. Also, many of our guests that support us are women,” says Dorn. “This is a day to recognize and celebrate the many achievements women make to society.”

There are 160 flats of the beer spread out through all seven Central Alberta Co-Op stores (Red Deer, Spruce View, Innisfail, Lacombe, Stettler) as well as a few kegs pouring at Bo’s in Red Deer, and it’s available at Field & Forge’s taproom in Innisfail.
