Red Deer athletes win record haul of medals at Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games
Red Deer athletes medaled in every sport at the 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games and came home with a record haul of 14 medals in team and individual competitions.
Fifty-two Special Olympics Red Deer athletes, coaches and support personnel attended the Games held from February 24-26 in Strathcona County.
The three day event featured six hundred athletes from throughout the province as well as from the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan competing in eight sports: floor hockey, curling, five pin bowling, speed skating, figure skating, snowshoeing, and downhill and cross-country skiing.
Red Deer athletes competed in curling (2 teams), floor hockey (1 team), five-pin bowling (3 teams) and speedskating (1 athlete).
