Editor’s Note: Due to significant amounts of online harassment suffered by local lottery winners recently, moving forward, rdnewsNOW has decided to no longer publish the names, likenesses or images of these winners. We hope this decision establishes a compromise between acknowledging significant local lottery wins while ensuring the privacy and safety of the winners.

A Red Deer man is $1.5 million richer today.

The man won by scratching a Super Set for Life ticket purchased at the Scotty’s Esso (5 Reichley Street, Red Deer) on Jan. 26.

The man got home, scratched his ticket, and couldn’t believe his eyes, shares the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.

“There was a dead silence,” he recalls as he claimed his prize.

Super Set for Life’s top prize is a choice between $100,000 a year for 20 years or a lump sum payment of $1.5 million.

The Red Deerian opted for the lump sum payment, making him Alberta’s newest millionaire.

The happy winner said he’s looking forward to living debt free.

“We’re going to pay off our mortgage,” he said. “It feels really good. It’s a blessing.”
