Ice sculptures coming to the Ross Street Patio

Jan 20, 2023 | 11:23 AM

Red Deer’s Downtown Business Association (DBA) has announced the return of ice sculptures to the city’s core as part of the Ross Street Patio winter programming, playfully titled the “Frost Street Patio.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to check out the Ross Street Patio on Jan. 26 to celebrate the installation of this year’s ice sculpture. From 4:00-7:00 p.m., you can pop by for a hot chocolate, snap a picture on the ice throne and bring the little ones for winter carnival games and family activities.

Visitors can end the evening by grabbing a bite to eat at a nearby eatery and enjoy it by one of the Ross Street Patio’s cozy fire tables under a canopy of lights. Organizers say this year’s installation will be created by Frozen Memories Inc. and we will be joined by volunteers from ABHI – Alberta Business & Health Institute.

“Attracting people downtown is an important objective of the DBA and the Ross Street Patio plays a large role in that,” says Amanda Gould, Executive Director of the DBA. “Our summers are getting busier and busier, but it is important to remember that a successful downtown is a four season downtown. By installing ice sculptures, we are giving citizens and visitors an opportunity to get outside with their families in the winter and see something different.”

“At the same time, we hope the visitors will take advantage of the other attractions in the downtown and really discover how much it has changed over the years,” adds Gould.

Officials say the Ross Street Patio is the hub of downtown entertainment, and the DBA is proud to be programming it for the winter season – saying you will see more activities as the winter progresses, including art installations, live music and family fun.

“Follow us on Facebook to keep updated on what’s going on when. If you are a community group or an event organizer wishing to bring some activity to Ross Street Patio either now or in the summer, please direct message or call the DBA to find out about the support, including financial support, that we can provide to help your event or activity come to life.”
