New trial dates scheduled for Lacombe County man charged in Rimbey shooting incident

Trial dates have now been set for a third time for a Lacombe County man charged in a Rimbey shooting incident two-and-a-half years ago.

Jade John Edward Slofstra, 34, was originally scheduled for trial in Rimbey provincial court on Apr. 21, 2021, then had it rescheduled to Dec. 15 of that year.

He is now scheduled for trial in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench from Mar. 11-20, 2024.

Slofstra faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and breach of recognizance in the July 5, 2020 incident.

That’s when RCMP responded to a request for help from EMS after a female witness called 911 in relation to a shooting at a rural property in Rimbey.

Mounties say the shooting occurred after a brief altercation that had escalated between two males. Police say the victim was able to drive away from the location of the shooting, but was later airlifted to hospital suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The male suspect turned himself into police the next day.

RCMP described the shooting as an isolated incident.
