Rebels win final game of year 6-2 against Oil Kings
The Red Deer Rebels ended 2022 on a high note, beating the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-2 at the Peavey Mart Centrium Friday night.
The Rebels also dominated the Oil Kings earlier this week on home ice in a 7-1 victory.
In the first period, the Rebels’ Jayden Grubbe opened the scoring at 9:22 on a rebound off Oil Kings goaltender Kolby Hay at the top of the crease. His 10th goal of the season was assisted by Matteo Fabrizi and Frantisek Formanek, with the team now in a 1-0 lead.
The Oil Kings evened the playing field 1-1 when Red Deer’s Frantisek Formanek was sent to the box for high sticking. Edmonton’s Naoh Boyko scored his eighth goal this season on Rebels netminder Rhett Stoesser at 14:54, with the power play goal assisted by Rilan Kovacevic and Marshall Finnie.
