Ponoka man sentenced to eight years in Wetaskiwin homicide

A Ponoka man has been sentenced to eight years in jail and given a lifetime firearms prohibition for his part in a Wetaskiwin homicide.

Ryan Jake Applegarth, 30, was sentenced in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench on Nov. 3, 2022, after being convicted of manslaughter.

It was on January 3, 2020, when RCMP responded to a complaint of a deceased 34-year-old man at a residence in Wetaskiwin.

A 27-year-old man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in relation to the incident.
