Red Deer city council appoints members to eight committees, boards & commissions

Red Deer city council appointed both chamber and public members to eight council committees, boards and commissions at their annual organizational meeting on Monday.

This year, the City states 23 vacancies were identified for the council committees, quasi-judicial boards, external boards and societies. While recruitment began in August, the Nomination Committee says they received 25 applications from interested citizens and met on Oct. 5 for consideration.

The following community members were appointed to a list of committees:

  • Housing and Homelessness Integrations Committee:
    • Brandon Bouchard (Two-year term)
    • Daniel White (Two-year term)
    • Gordon Wright (Two-year term)
  • Intermunicipal Subdivision & Development Appeal Board: Bonnie Sansregret (Three-year term)
  • Municipal Planning Commission: Linda Cullen-Saik (Two-year term)
  • Public Art Commission:
    • Dave Beck (Two-year term)
    • Daniel White (Two-year term)
  • Red Deer & District Family and Community Support Services Board:
    • Gordon Thomas (Two-year term)
    • Milt Williams (Two-year term)
  • Red Deer Library Board:
    • Gabriel Beck (Three-year term)
    • Jerry Moore (Three-year term)
    • Shelley Odishaw (Three-year term)
    • Sabrina Samuel (Two-year term)
  • Red Deer Tribunals: Bonnie Sansregret (Three-year term)
  • River Bend Golf and Recreation Society Board:
    • Barb Christopherson (Three-year term)
    • Stacey Hodgson (Three-year term)
    • Nick Schultz (Three-year term)

“These committees are made up of individuals with a desire to give back to the community, contribute to the decision-making process, and help shape our city. Some volunteers have specific expertise relevant to a specific board, commission, or committee,” said the City in a release.

All council members were also appointed to various committees, listed in a chart.

Council ratified Todd Lawrence and Katrina Sharpe as representatives on the Downtown Business Association Board of Directors for three-year terms.

Two resolutions were passed to endorse Councillors Cindy Jefferies and Dianne Wyntjes as council representation at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA).

A resolution was also passed to endorse Councillor Lawrence Lee as council representation at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

The City confirms there are still some vacancies on various committees and adds it will be releasing more information on application details soon.
