Public Safety Compliance Team resumes unannounced audits of Red Deer businesses
In partnership with Red Deer RCMP, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission, Alberta Health Services, and the City of Red Deer’s Inspections & Licensing department, Red Deer Emergency Services conducted 10 safety audits of local restaurants and bars on October 14, 2022, as a part of their joint Public Safety Compliance Team (PSCT) efforts.
Partnering up for the first time since the pandemic began in 2020, City officials say representatives from the five organizations inspected businesses for their specific areas of expertise, including:
- health codes and food storage,
- building fire codes, fire exits and occupant loads,
- safety and security of patrons and staff, and
- liquor sales relating to legal age and consumption levels.
“PSCT works together to ensure local hospitality and entertainment establishments provide a safe environment for both patrons and staff,” said Tim Kivell, Fire Marshal for Red Deer Emergency Services, in a press release. “A coordinated approach ensures that the hospitality industry is maintaining standards as outlined in Federal and Provincial Statutes, as well as Municipal bylaws.”
