Potentially disclosed on Thursday

City to meet with province Tuesday regarding future shelter site

Sep 26, 2022 | 9:16 PM

Members of Red Deer city council and Mayor Ken Johnston will be meeting with provincial ministers on Tuesday to discuss the recommended future shelter site, the City confirmed in a release.

While council’s decision for the city’s potential location for the future shelter site was planned for public disclosure at Monday’s meeting, provincial feedback had not been finalized.

Following their meeting on September 27 in Calgary, the shelter item discussed at Monday’s council meeting has been recessed to be continued on Thursday, September 29 at 9 a.m.

“The province has additional questions about the site being recommended and our meeting tomorrow is to provide the information needed. We know this is a big decision; it took a lot of hard work to get here. At the end of the day, this is a provincial project, and they need to have all the information available to decide whether they will support our recommended site or not,” said Mayor Johnston.

The City states that council expects to be in a position to publicly release the recommended shelter site on Thursday following their meeting.
