Trial set for man charged in Red Deer homicide

Aug 23, 2022 | 11:17 AM

A man charged in a Red Deer homicide in 2020 is scheduled for trial next year.

Dustin Mitchell (Coats), 27, is scheduled for trial in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on March 20, 2023, after the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) chose to proceed on the matter by way of direct indictment.

Mitchell is facing one count of second-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old James Rufiange.

It was on Nov. 25, 2020 when Red Deer RCMP and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit were called to a residence on Stewart Street in the city’s Sunnybrook neighbourhood and arrived to find a deceased male inside.
