Strathmore man arrested following alleged Ponoka break and enter

A Strathmore man has been charged in connection to a break and enter in Ponoka last week.

RCMP say it was Friday, July 29 when members were dispatched to a report of a break and enter in progress on Township Road 434 in Ponoka.

Police say the homeowner reported arriving home to discover at least two suspects in their yard and garage. The homeowner told police he was observing them loading a truck with his personal property.

As police were en route, one of the suspects allegedly assaulted the homeowner with a weapon and fled the scene on foot.

Wetaskiwin RCMP Police Dog Services attended but couldn’t locate the suspect.

The second suspect sustained injuries in their attempt to flee, and was arrested without incident.

According to RCMP, investigation revealed that the truck being used by the suspects was reported stolen from the Edmonton Airport.

The 44-year-old man is charged with:

· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

· Theft Under $5,000

· Possession of Break In Instruments

He was released on conditions to attend Ponoka provincial court on Sept. 9.
