Chinook’s Edge trustees approve $132 Million budget

May 30, 2022 | 10:55 AM

The Chinook’s Edge Board of Trustees have approved a $132 million budget for the 2022-2023 school year.

District officials say the approval follows an extensive presentation from treasurer Shauna Kaiser and deliberation by the Board.

Officials note this includes an operating deficiency of $4.187 million. While capital purchases of $1.258 million will result in the division operating reserves to decline, a series of school and department budget transactions at the end of the fiscal year are expected to see reserves increase.

Additional expenses unique to this year’s budget are said to include: the Board’s investment from reserves in the Social Emotional Team to provide mental health supports for schools; the impact of COVID-caused learning loss and supply chain/inflation issues; support for staff cost increases; and the implementation of new curriculum.
