Lacombe County, City secure funding to design plan for south ring road

The City of Lacombe and Lacombe County have been awarded a provincial government grant for what those municipalities are referring to as the functional plan of the South Ring Road Connector project.

The grant from the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) will cover 100 per cent of the project up to $200,000, and the municipalities are not required to provide any matching dollars.

“Council is thrilled to partner with the Government of Alberta on the future of transportation in Lacombe,” says Grant Creasey, mayor of Lacombe. “The South Ring Road Connector is a critical development for alleviating future traffic concerns, and this plan will ensure this future road meets the needs of our growing community.”

City and County staff will work to secure an engineering consultant by end of 2022.

The City received letters of support for the project from Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver, and Minister of Environment and Parks Jason Nixon.

“Council would like to thank the Government of Alberta for their ongoing support on this project,” Creasey adds. “Partnering with the province and our neighbours from Lacombe County will ensure this project meets the needs of all parties involved.”

The grant deadline to complete the functional plan is Q1 2024.
