Trial dates have been set for a man charged in the death of a woman in Ponoka nearly a year-and-a-half ago.

Ryan Jake Applegarth, 29, of Ponoka, is scheduled for trial in Wetaskiwin Court of Queen’s Bench from May 1-5, 2023.

It was on Nov. 5, 2020 when RCMP, along with EMS, responded to a 911 call for an injured female at a residential complex in Ponoka.

Chantelle Firingstoney, 26, a resident of Ponoka, was found deceased.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and following an autopsy, determined the cause of death to be homicide.

Applegarth is also scheduled for an appearance in Wetaskiwin Court of Queen’s Bench on May 3, 2022 regarding a second homicide. He’s charged in the death of a 34-year-old man in Wetaskiwin in January 2020.

Applegarth is charged with first-degree murder in that case.
