Mar 24, 2022 | 2:21 PM

After four sold out runs in Edmonton, Grindstone Theatre’s hit production, Jason Kenney’s Hot Boy Summer the Musical, is going on tour with a stop in Red Deer.

From the writing team who brought you Fringe favourite, ThunderCATS! The Musical, Byron Martin (Artistic Director, Grindstone Theatre) and Simon Abbott are back at it again with a political satire based on our current Albertan Leadership. Jason Kenney’s Hot Boy Summer, The Musical will tour to four major Alberta cities before heading back home to Edmonton.

The show takes place at Alberta University in 1983. Newly-elected student union president Jason Kenney and his frat, Upsilon Cappa Pi, are planning the hottest year-end party ever (rodeo-themed of course). But Kenney’s nemesis Rachel will do anything to stop him. Soon Dean Trudeau, his new friend Deena, and even his frat mates are turning against him. Can Kenney save his hot summer party, and his frat at the same time?

The cast includes Donovan Workun (CBC’s The Irrelevant Show, Just for Laughs) as Jason Kenney, Abby Vandenberghe (The Eleven O’Clock Number) as Deena Hinshaw, Dana Wylie (Canadian Folk Music Award nominee) as Rachel Notley, Kathleen Sera (ELOPE, Festival Players) as Tracy Allard, Mark Sinongco (Uniform Theatre, Festival Players) as Tyler Shandro, Sarah Dowling (Edmonton Opera, ThunderCATS!) as Sarah Hoffman, Onika Henry (Ready Go Theatre ) as Kaycee Madu, and Malachi Wilkins (The Eleven O’Clock Number) as both Pierre and Justin Trudeau. Accompanied by musicians Simon Abbott, Erik Mortimer, and Jesse Crowley.
