Curling | Saturday, February 12 | Bonspiel #2 | The Pidherney Centre

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Curling team went 4-0 on its home ice. The Queens played well, picking up three wins and only dropping one.

Queens Volleyball | Thursday, February 10 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens defeated the Ambrose University Lions in four sets (25-12, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-19). “We were really consistent and we wanted to focus on playing as a team,” said Queens outside hitter Tess Pearman, a Bachelor of Education Elementary student. “With it being our final home game, we wanted to feel like a family on the court and I thought we really brought that out.”

Queens Volleyball | Saturday, February 12 | Lethbridge College

In the final regular season match, the undefeated RDP Queens (16-0) earned a five set victory over the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 23-25 and 15-10). Queens Player of the Game Emma Letkeman contributed 45 assists, nine digs, three of the team’s four aces, and three kills.

Kings Volleyball | Thursday, February 10 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Kings Volleyball team swept the Ambrose University Lions (25-15, 25-11 and 25-15). Kings setter Maddux Greves set a new ACAC record with 14 service aces in one match. “Breaking any record is a nice accomplishment, but it was a testament to how hard we are working in the gym,” said Greves. Kings Volleyball | Saturday, February 12 | Lethbridge College

The first place Kings (12-4) wrapped up the regular season against the Kodiaks in Lethbridge. Greves was named the Kings Player of the Game, totaling 52 assists, eight digs, six kills and two of the team’s five service aces.

Queens Basketball | Friday, February 11 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team dropped a 72-49 decision to the SAIT Trojans. Amy Szymanek scored 20 points for the Queens. RDP’s Sophie Melin added nine.

Queens Basketball | Saturday, February 12 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The fifth place RDP Queens (6-6) worked hard but fell 76-55 to the St. Mary’s University Lightning. The Lightning are ranked sixth in Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Basketball. United Kingdom’s Lauren France was recognized as the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game, accumulating 14 points, four rebounds, one block and an assist.

Kings Basketball | Friday, February 11 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Trojans picked up an 89-69 road win over the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Basketball team. First-year Kings guard Pierce Shybunka was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game. The Bachelor of Kinesiology student from Red Deer had three points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal. “I thought Pierce had a gritty game. He played defence and played really well against a couple of their speedy guards that can shoot,” said Darren Graham, Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Basketball Head Coach. “He ran the offence fairly well and he knocked down some shots from the outside. I was impressed with the spark that he gave us from the bench.”

The third place Kings (7-5) defeated the St. Mary’s University Lightning 76-64 at Red Deer Polytechnic. “The star of our game was our team defence,” said Graham.

Queens Hockey | Monday, February 7 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team shutout the NAIT Ooks 1-0. Queens netminder Madison Fox stopped 18 shots, earning her third straight shutout. Brenna Reid, a first year Bachelor of Kinesiology student, scored the lone goal for Red Deer Polytechnic.

The Ooks needed a shootout to down the Queens 1-0. RDP Queens goaltender Izzy Palumbo made 36 saves in a tremendous road effort.

The NAIT Ooks got by the shorthanded Queens (8-2-1) by a score of 4-1 at Red Deer Polytechnic. Reid scored the lone goal for RDP.

Kings Hockey | Friday, February 11 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team lost 3-1 to the NAIT Ooks. Huxley’s Ryley Smith scored for the Kings.

Kings Hockey | Saturday, February 12 | NAIT

In a rematch, the third seed RDP Kings (6-3-2-1) were shaded 6-5 by the Ooks in Edmonton. Hayden Clayton, Tucker Scantlebury, Mathieu Lapointe, Sean Michalevich and Jantzen Leslie found the back of the net for Red Deer Polytechnic.
