RCMP are continuing to look into the cause of a multi-vehicle crash north of Red Deer Monday afternoon.

On Jan. 24, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Blackfalds RCMP responded to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 2A between Red Deer and Blackfalds.

Mounties say Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and City of Red Deer Fire Services were also called to the scene near Township Road 392.

Police say the preliminary investigation indicates a car was travelling northbound on Highway 2A and crossed the centre line, striking a car headed southbound. The northbound vehicle then also struck a second southbound car.

A 58-year-old male from Lacombe was the sole occupant of the northbound car. Officers confirm he sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to an area hospital.

A 55-year-old driver from Red Deer was the sole occupant of the first southbound car struck in the collision and sustained minor injuries, treated at the scene by EMS and not transported.

The second southbound car was also driven by a Red Deerian, an 18-year-old male and had an 18-year-old male passenger. Both males did not sustain any physical injuries but were assessed by EMS at the scene and released.

RCMP say alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been involved.

No further updates are anticipated.
