South Korea lifts ban on Canadian beef

Canadian beef will once again be allowed in South Korea.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau shared the news on Twitter today.

She said South Korea has lifted the temporary suspension on Canada beef imports imposed last month after the discovery of an atypical bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in an eight-and-a-half-year-old beef cow on a farm in Alberta.

China and the Philippines also implemented import bans because of the BSE case but there has been no word when restrictions from those countries might be lifted.

China is the largest of the three beef markets and represents about five per cent of Canada’s $400-billion in exports.
