Built By The Ponoka East District Fire Department

Skating trail opens at Lions Centennial Park in Ponoka

Jan 4, 2022 | 12:50 PM

The skating trail that winds through Lions Centennial Park in Ponoka is now open and ready for skaters.

Town officials say this means citizens will once again be able to enjoy the Lions Centennial Park light display on skates. The display will continue to light up the park and run for the month of January.

The skating trail can be accessed from the north-end gazebo at Centennial Park. Park benches and rubber mats have been installed to provide citizens a place to lace up and take off their skates.

Officials say the skating trail was built by the Ponoka East District Fire Department in conjunction with the Town of Ponoka operations crews. The Town of Ponoka would like to thank the Ponoka East District Fire Department for their time and equipment this year in making the skating trail possible.

Throughout the winter, the Fire Department will continue flooding the ice surface, while Town of Ponoka crews will clear snow along the trail on an as needed basis.

Pease note, the ice trail is for public skating only. Hockey is not permitted.

Skaters are asked to follow all COVID-19 provincial health orders and recommendations, including physical distancing from other households and staying home if you are feeling unwell.
