Increased Protection Measures

AHS announces enhanced limits to visitation for close contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19

Dec 21, 2021 | 12:06 PM

AHS is taking additional precautions to limit transmission of COVID-19 at acute and continuing care sites, in light of the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Beginning Tuesday Dec. 20, these precautions will include limits to site access for designated support persons and visitors who are close contacts of a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19.

Officials say the measure will apply to anyone who is a close contact, including individuals who are fully immunized.

This means that designated support persons or visitors who are a close contact or have a case of COVID-19 in their home will not be able to access Continuing Care or AHS acute care sites for 14 days from the date of last exposure.

Officials say this temporary measure mirrors similar limits to visitation during previous waves and is intended to protect patients, residents and healthcare providers.

For those who are concerned how this change will impact a patient who is admitted to an AHS site or who needs support at an appointment, please connect directly with the patient’s care team to discuss options. Decisions that limit visitation are never made lightly, as officials recognize the benefit to patients when they have their designated support person.
