Football Alberta weekly high school rankings

Oct 10, 2021 | 1:03 PM

Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four tiers of 12-man high school football in Alberta and the 6-man rankings as well for the 2021 season.

These rankings come out every Sunday until Nov. 7. At that time, those will be the last rankings and teams will take that rank into Provincials.

Teams are slotted into tiers based on their estimated school size, which may change once official counts are known at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools

GAME(S) OF THE WEEK:

Tier I

#2 Notre Dame Pride vs. #5 St. Francis Browns

6:00 p.m., Friday, October 15, Hellard Field at Shouldice Park (Calgary)

There are many great games this week at the Tier I level including #1 Harry Ainlay vs. #10 Bev Facey and #6 Ernest Manning vs. #7 Henry Wise Wood, but there is only one Big One.

Annually the tilt between the Pride and the Browns draws the largest high school football crowds in Western Canada. So much so, that it had to be held in McMahon Stadium to handle the demand. This year it will be a little different with new restrictions on spectators for Calgary Senior High School football games now limiting attendees to parents/guardians/siblings, the game will be at Shouldice Park with a fraction of the crowd who would like to attend.

This year, the teams are on a similar trajectory to each other with only a loss to L.C.I. by the Browns blemishing the teams otherwise perfect records. In most years this can serve as a preview of the Calgary Division I final, but in 2021 it also will go a long way to determining the team(s) from Calgary who might qualify for the ASAA’s new Brian Fryer Division of Provincial Playoffs which takes the top four Tier I teams out of the draw and has them play off for Provincial gold.

Note, the Football Alberta rankings are NOT being used to determine these four teams. A special committee of the ASAA has been formed and will come up with their decision on Nov. 7. Until then, sit back and enjoy the ride.
