Clearview Public Schools welcomes one new trustee, rest acclaimed

Clearview Public Schools doesn’t have to wait to find out who’ll be elected to its trustee positions.

All candidates were acclaimed for this election, for which voters head to the polls Oct. 18.

Shauna-lee Thomas is the sole newcomer on the board after Trustee Ken Checkel retired after 23 years.

Thomas represents the area of Brownfield and Coronation, Checkel’s former region.

“Shauna-lee’s school council background and experience living in a rural community will be invaluable on our board,” says Guy Neitz, Clearview Board Chair. “She understands the strengths that small schools have in Clearview and for the communities they serve.”

Thomas also grew up in Brownfield and is raising her family there, the division shares. She runs a mixed cattle and grain operation and served on school council for 13 years, with nine of those as chair.

Thomas has a diploma in Geomatics Engineering, and most recently earned a diploma in Applied Nutrition. She and her husband Wayne have four children aged 11 to 17. The oldest two attend school in Coronation and the youngest children attend in Brownfield.

“I believe strong communities build resilient children and it does truly ‘take a village’ to raise them,” says Thomas. “I love living and raising my family in a rural community and appreciate the opportunity to bring that perspective to the board.”

Thomas was sworn in on Oct. 6 at the board’s organizational meeting. The next meeting of the board is Oct. 27.

Other acclaimed trustees, all of whom were incumbents, include Greg Hayden, Guy Neitz, Erika Grice, John Schofer, Becky Scott and Kim Smyth.
