Red Deer with 818 active cases of COVID-19

There are 818 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer as of Tuesday, down 86 from Monday.

On Sept. 27, Red Deer hit a new record of 915, breaking its previous record of 911 set at the height of the third wave.

According to the latest stats released by Alberta Health, recoveries in Red Deer rose by 87 to 7,392. While the number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is now 8,277 – up three from Monday.

Red Deer’s active case rate is 768.8 per 100k population. That compares to Edmonton at 264.4 per 100k, and Calgary at 239.2 per 100k.

Red Deer’s death toll from the virus is now 67, up two from Monday.

In terms of vaccinations, Alberta has administered 6,142,455 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

The percentage of eligible Red Deerians aged 12+ with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine is 76.4 per cent or 65.8 per cent of the total population. That represents 70, 048 people with at least one dose- an increase of 176 over the past day.

Meanwhile, 67.2 per cent of Red Deer’s eligible population aged 12+ is now fully vaccinated with at least two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. That’s 57.9 per cent of the city’s total population, an increase of 123 people from the day before.

Elsewhere across Central zone, there are 4,044 active cases of COVID-19, a decrease of 335 from Monday.

There are 206 people in hospital with COVID-19 across the zone, a decrease of one from Monday, with 19 of those patients in ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, also a decrease of one from the day before.

The number of deaths from the virus in Central zone is now 280, an increase of five in the past day.

Provincially, 663 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases across the province now to 19,456 – a decrease of 1,218 from Monday.

With 8,018 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 8.2 per cent.

There are 1,094 people in hospital with COVID-19 throughout Alberta, an increase of 15 from Monday, with 252 of those patients receiving intensive care, down five from the day before.

There have been 26 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province now to 2,778.
