Red Deer with 786 active COVID-19 cases

Red Deer has 786 active cases of COVID-19, down 46 from Wednesday.

The city hit a new peak of 915 on Sept. 27, topping its previous high of 911 on May 8 at the height of the third wave.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose by 75 to 7,090 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 29 in the last day to 7,937.

The city’s rate of active cases per 100,000 people is 738.8, compared to the city of Calgary at 253.4 and the city of Edmonton at 297.3.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains at 61, with the last one reported Sept. 29.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 6,067,562 vaccine doses as of Sept. 29, up 18,495 in the last day.

83.6 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (71.1% total population), and 74.3 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (63.2% total population).

In Red Deer, 69,243 (75.5% of eligible & 65.0% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 159. Meanwhile, 61,101 (66.6%/57.4%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 141. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,942 active cases as of Thursday, down 119 in the last day.

There are 181 hospitalizations, up seven, and 19 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down two from Wednesday.

Central Zone has recorded 268 deaths, including seven over the past day.

Elsewhere, the Edmonton zone has 5,175 active cases of COVID-19, while there are 4,831 active cases in the Calgary zone, 3,989 in the North zone, 2,295 in the South zone and 23 additional active cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The active caseload is now 20,255, down 51 from Wednesday. This with the province adding 1,706 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

With 17,590 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 9.6 per cent.

There are 1,083 people currently in hospital with COVID-19, down one from Wednesday, with 263 of those patients in ICU, down five from the day before.

There have been 20 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the province’s death toll from the virus now to 2,717.
