Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics is proud to announce the RDP Athletes of the Week.

Justine Larson – Queens Cross Country Running

Hometown – Strathmore, AB

Bachelor of Education Elementary (1st year)

Strathmore’s Justine Larson started her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running career in impressive fashion. After a summer of intense practicing and training, the Bachelor of Education Elementary student showed that she is prepared to become one of the top ACAC female cross country runners this season.

At Running Room Grand Prix #1 (North) on Saturday, Larson (29:53) finished third individually among ACAC female participants over 6 km. College officials say her valuable contributions helped guide the RDP Queens to third spot in Edmonton. In only her first year in the ACAC, Larson has shown talent, adaptability, and the ability to become a key contributor for the Queens, and Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running in 2021/2022.

Gabriel Fleury de Queiroz – Kings Soccer

Hometown – Brasilia, DF, Brazil

Business Administration General Management (3rd year)

This past Friday, Gabriel Fleury de Queiroz played exceptionally well on the pitch, helping to lead the RDP Kings Soccer team (1-0-0) to an impressive 5-1 victory over the ACAC 2019/2020 gold medalists, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. Fleury de Queiroz recorded one goal, which came from a penalty kick, and four shots on net over 77 minutes of playing time.

The third-year forward consistently attacked the Kodiaks’ defenders, which resulted in a second penalty kick. Teammate Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto also converted the opportunity into a Kings’ goal. The talented student-athlete from Brazil worked hard and followed the game plan implemented by Kings Head Coach Gerald Grobmeier. Fleury de Queiroz led by example and was a crucial student-athlete in the home decision, allowing the RDP Kings to open the ACAC 2021/2022 season on a winning note.

For his strong effort, Fleury de Queiroz was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.
