Red Deer rental rates increase in August

Despite increases in rental rates in Red Deer last month, the city remains among the most affordable in Canada for rental units.

According to the latest National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research & Consulting, Red Deer placed 31st on the list of 35 Canadian cities included in the August report.

The average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Red Deer in August was $914 per month, up 1.5 per cent from July and 9.9 per cent from August, 2020. A two-bedroom unit rented for an average of $1,047 per month, down 0.4 per cent from July, but 9.0 per cent higher than August of last year.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Calgary placed 27th on the list, with an average rent of $1,231 per month in August, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,580.

Edmonton placed 29th on the list, with an average rent of $1,011 per month in August, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,246.

Grande Prairie placed 32nd on the list, with an average rent of $895 per month in August, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,080.

Lloydminster, AB placed 35th on the list, with an average rent of $718 per month in August, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $827.

Vancouver topped the list of having the most expensive rental rates in Canada, with an average rent of $2,167 per month in August, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $3,044.
