60% of eligible Red Deerians fully vaccinated, province at 67.9%

Red Deer has 96 active cases of COVID-19, up 11 from Friday’s update.

Recoveries are listed at 5,783, up 15, as Red Deer added 26 new COVID cases over the last three days for a total of 5,922.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The entire Central Zone has 393 active cases as of Monday, up 80 from Friday. There are 15 hospitalizations, equal to Friday, and four people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, also the same as Friday.

The zone has had 171 deaths linked to the virus, with none reported today.

The zone’s seven-day testing positivity rate is currently 8.2 per cent, with a one-day weekend high of 9.75 per cent on Aug. 13, with 1,536 tests done over the three days.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Over the past three days, Alberta Health confirmed a combined 1,407 new cases, with 564 on Friday, 451 on Saturday, and 392 on Sunday.

Last Monday, the province announced 1,017 cases over the Aug. 6-8 weekend.

There are now 5,354 active cases, up 916 from Friday’s total of 4,438. That’s also up from last Monday’s total of 3,380.

Of the currently active cases, 4,354 are confirmed as variants of concern, about 81.3 per cent.

An average of 6,830 tests were conducted each day over the past three days. The seven-day positivity rate is currently 6.45 per cent, up from 4.69 one week ago.

Provincially, 161 patients are currently hospitalized, up nine over the weekend, including 43 who have been admitted to intensive care, up six. Last Monday, there were 129 in hospital and 26 in ICU.

Of the 161 people in hospital province-wide, there are currently 90 not in ICU and 39 in ICU (129 total) who are completely unvaccinated. Another 10 have received one dose. That leaves 22 of the 161 who have two doses.

Since Friday’s update, there has sadly been one new death added to the provincial COVID-19 death toll, which stands at 2,333.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 5,443,763 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Aug. 15. That’s up 19,929 over the weekend, or an average of 6,643 daily.

Of the 12+ population, 76.8 (+0.1) per cent has received at least one dose (65.4% total population), while 67.9 (+0.4) per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (57.7% total population).

In Red Deer, 62,033 (67.7% eligible/58.3% total) people have received at least one dose, up 167 over the last three days. Meanwhile, 55,260 residents (60.3%/51.9%) are fully vaccinated, up 308.
