Alberta surpasses 5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, active cases up

In Alberta, 5,056,062 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of July 18.

Of the 12+ population, 74.8 (+0.3) per cent has received at least one dose (63.6% total population), while 59.7 (+1.8) per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (50.8% total population).

In Red Deer, 60,399 (65.9% eligible/56.8% total) people have received at least one dose, up 207 over the last three days. Meanwhile, 49,817 residents (54.3%/46.8%) are fully vaccinated, up 1,252.

Meantime, Red Deer has 17 active cases of COVID-19, down one from Friday’s update.

Recoveries are listed at 5,731, up five, as Red Deer added four new COVID cases over the last three days for a total of 5,791.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The entire Central Zone has 47 active cases as of Monday, up nine from Friday. There are seven hospitalizations, down two, and zero people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one. This is the first time there have been zero COVID patients in the RDRH ICU since hospitalizations began rising last fall.

The zone has had 170 deaths linked to the virus, with none reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Over the past three days, AHS confirmed a combined 130 new cases with 49 on Friday, 43 on Saturday, and 38 on Sunday. Last Monday, the province announced 90 new cases over the July 9-11 weekend.

There are now 605 active cases, up 26 from Friday’s total of 579. This marks the third straight data update from the province where the active caseload has increased.

An average of 5,073 tests were conducted each day over the past three days. The seven-day positivity rate is currently 0.82 per cent, up 0.14.

Provincially, 100 patients are currently hospitalized, down 10, including 27 who have been admitted to intensive care, down one.

Since Friday’s update, there have been two new deaths added to the provincial COVID-19 death toll, which is now 2,316.
