Red Deer with 150 active COVID cases, Alberta dips below 4,000

Red Deer is down to 150 active cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, according to the latest numbers from the province. That’s down 19 from Wednesday’s total of 169 and the city’s lowest total since March 25.

Recoveries are up 29 to 5,516 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 10 to 5,706.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40.

Elsewhere locally as of Thursday (by municipality):

Lacombe County – 17 (-1)

The Central Zone as a whole has 496 active cases as of Thursday and 29 hospitalizations, including six receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 160 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Across Alberta another 178 cases of COVID-19 were announced Thursday out of 5,501 test results for a positivity rate of 3.2 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 3,801, a one-day decrease of 394.

There are 306 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 23, including 81 in intensive care, down two.

Six new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,256.

As of June 9, 3,215,144 doses have been administered in Alberta. 67.8 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12-plus have now received at least one dose and 16.7 per cent are fully vaccinated with two doses.
