Penhold Mayor Mike Yargeau has been elected to the board of directors for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

FCM is the national voice of municipalities and has been so since 1901.

Yargeau’s role now involves him advocating for municipalities to be sure citizens’ needs are reflected in federal policy-making.

“I take great pride in my role as Mayor and I am very much looking forward to advancing the needs of Alberta’s Municipal governments alongside officials from all over Canada,” says Mayor Yargeau.

“Alberta has so much to offer FCM and we need leaders who want to work with Canadians from all over. There is so much that unites us as Canadians and if the last year has taught us anything, we need to focus on that and work together to create solutions to the problems that we all face.”

There are 74 members on the FCM board of directors, with the organization bringing together nearly 2,000 communities.

Yargeau was elected by fellow municipal leaders across the province to represent them. He is the lone representative from central Alberta, with a term of one year.
